Under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Dr. Hussam bin Saud bin Abdulaziz, Emir of Al-Bahah Region, and in the presence of His Excellency Eng. Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen AlFadley, Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, the agreements of the Ras Mohaisen Independent Water Plant (IWP) project were officially signed. The project, to be established in Al-Qunfudhah Governorate, Makkah Region, will produce 300,000 cubic meters of desalinated water per day. Eng. Al-Fadley stated that this project advances the water sector’s objectives to implement water production projects across the Kingdom, increasing private sector participation in alignment with a strategic partnership. The Ras Mohaisen IWP is designed to enhance water supply chains, serving both residents and visitors of Makkah and Al-Bahah regions, while also improving service quality and efficiency under Vision 2030.
Scheduled for an initial operational phase in the first quarter of 2028, the plant will employ reverse osmosis technology to minimize electricity consumption, maintain high production levels, reduce operational costs, and support local content through increased localization in both operations and human resources. The project attracted significant interest, with 44 companies participating in the bidding process, including 21 Saudi companies. The winning consortium consists of ACWA Power, Hajj Abdullah Ali Reza & Partners, and Al-Kifah Holding Company. This project extends ongoing efforts in privatization and public-private partnerships within the environment, water, and agriculture sectors, following the successful implementation of several other independent water and wastewater treatment projects.
